Well this certainly has been a different start to the league. In week 1, we had 4 teams with bye weeks. In week 2 we had a repeat game plus the lowest scoring game possible with a victor. Lastly in week 3 there was a cancellation for no reason as well as a monsoon promptly ending the Larryville/Ormsby games.
Let me start off by saying that Team Squabby (team 10) is really good. Right now they are my odds on favorite to win this thing. They won their first game of the season by the mercy rule, putting up 21 runs. The 21 runs is the highest from any game this season on Monday nights. They followed up this performance by beating team 9 minutes later by putting 15 runs on the board. Maybe they're stacked, maybe they just found inferior competition, but back to back 10+ run games are impressive. The thing they have to be careful about is giving up runs. 9 runs is too much to give up and expect to win. Their last two games were a bit closer showing they can play small ball if needed. After 3 weeks, standing 4-0 and tops of division B should have them pumped and ready to go.
In Division A, it looks like the Charcoal magic is carrying over. Last season the Charcoal team won the championship. This year they switched to green. Is it coincidence that the current charcoal team is undefeated while the green team suffered their first loss of 2010? Maybe, maybe not. Division A looks to be wide open as most of the teams already have one loss.
With 2 losses already, Royal and Red need to be careful. Only 2 teams per division make the playoffs. With 4 other teams gunning for those spots, one more loss will be the end of the season for either team. Expect the playoff competitors to have only 1 or 2 losses. If a team does have 2 losses and make the playoffs, expect that to come by way of the tie breakers.
Light Blue and Yellow have some interesting teams. I know a couple of people on both squads. They both have the ability to go far (especially light blue), but my lack of familiarity makes me hesitant to call them playoff competitors just yet.
Looking at the other 5 teams in division B shows no clear cut favorite for the 2nd playoff spot. Each team has major weaknesses. Grey, White, and Pink are pretty much eliminated at this point with their piss poor records. That is fine by me as I hate all 3 of those colors. I never get why everyone wants pink in PSL. Seriously, other than looking like an asshole (for guys), all pink does is make the ladies pretty.
Orange and Green (buttercup joe) will be the 2 teams fighting for that 2nd spot. I have a feeling that Green will end up pulling it off given their awesome baserunning. Also I hate duplicate colors in leagues so I know we will end up with 2 green teams in the playoffs just to piss off Mr. Kickballer.
